Falcons On The Hunt
I was sitting outside at one of the picnic tables the other day and I heard the peregrine falcon that has taken up residence in the woods near my house except she sounded a whole lot closer than normal. I started looking in the trees to see if I could spot the falcon and sure enough, she was perched in a tree not to far from where I was sitting. I do not know if the falcon was taunting its prey or what, but the falcons cries were coming fast and furious. I kept watching to see what would happen and the falcon flew from its perch, came screaming through the woods, and snatched a much smaller bird out of mid air and choked the life out of it. It was quick, brutal, and efficient. The falcon coasted further down into the woods with its prize firmly gripped in its claws. I did not need to see what happened after that because I believe the basic "rules of the jungle" were applied and the small bird became lunch for the falcon family. It was an impressive and powerful display of nature.
