Molly and I had Round II with the Ground Hog yesterday afternoon and I would have to declare that round even. I really should give the Ground Hog a name. I believe I will call him "Larry".
Molly smelled that something was up before we ever got there and I am always worried about snakes more than anything. Whatever Molly smelled was in the culvert near the cottage and right as she started to stick her head into the culvert the Ground Hog decided to stick his head out. I think it just about scared the pee out of both of them.
Molly, always the aggressor, tried chasing the Ground Hog back in there but I pulled her back out. I have always found it better to battle a ground burrowing animal in the wide open rather than it's hole. Larry preferred the "hide and seek" battle plan so he escaped out the back end of the culvert and made a break for it. To be a hog, Larry is pretty quick on his feet. The moral of the story is that Larry lived to fight another day.
