I believe there has to be a level of trust betweem an owner and his dog. I had to leave my dog Molly with my roommate last week because I had to go out of town. I had to trust Molly to do the right thing and to not stage some sort of jail break.
My roommate is an alcoholic. I have to admit that I was very nervous about leaving Molly with him. Molly doesn't take up with many people but she has really taken up with my roommate for whatever reason. Maybe Molly realizes he has problems and is trying to help him out in her own way and looking out for him.
I came home a day later and my roommate was out walking her on his leash and Molly was straining at her leash to see me. My roommate took good care of her. He took Molly on long walks around the neighborhood and Molly got him to do things I had never known him to do. Molly can be very influential when she wants to be.
