Squirrel!! Part I

In a scene reminiscent from the classic movie Christmas Vacation, a squirrel got loose in my sister's house the other day. There were three dogs and two cats in the house at the time. My sister's dog Reba and I spotted the squirrel at about the same time and that was when all hell broke loose.

I was so surprised when I looked up from my laptop and saw a squirrel staring back at me from the bookcase. I believe the squirrel was just as surprised to see me. Reba and I reacted at the same time but in much different ways. I yelled "Squirrel!" and jumped up from the table. Reba vaulted over the couch in the living room and made a headlong dive for the squirrel. The squirrel in turn made a dive for me (like I was going to save him). I quickly conceived a plan (and no, screaming like a girl was not my plan) to run out the back door and I was hoping Reba would follow my lead and chase the squirrel out the back door.

When that didn't happen, I went back into the house to see what was going on. Fluffy, Reba's partner in crime, had joined the chase by this time and they were turning over furniture, knocking over lamps, and the squirrel was running around the living room jumping from wall-to-wall and flying around staying one step ahead of Reba and Fluffy. The cats slept right through it and Molly was waiting until the smoke cleared before she cleaned it all up.
